PROJECT/WORK: The traditional rulers of the project community have jointly with the administrative authorities of the area submitted to our organization for support and collaboration to put up a befitting and a magnificent community centre as a public meeting point for the people. The project, if completed, is envisaged to enhancing and promoting information dissemination in the community. In an embracing manner, Chiefs and the district Assembly are more than willing and prepared to join hands with the volunteers to carry out the project and pledge their maximum support and cooperation to ensure their safety and security in course of project implementation.
In this regard, volunteers participating in this project will diligently be placed under a close technical supervision of an engineer to be attached to the project. As the project implementation opens, volunteers will be requested from time to time, to carry out assignments and responsibilities that will positive impact on the project. Volunteers’ assistance will be solicited to dig foundation trenches, cart sand and stones intended for the building as well as molding of cement blocks, mix and pouring of concrete and so forth and so forth. The usual spirit of voluntarism will be expected to be highly demonstrated by volunteers through hardwork and perseverance during the project implementation. Volunteers who may not have any skill in laying of blocks will, in no small measure, be encouraged to try their hands as part of a learning process and experience as well as exposure they need as campers.
LOCATION: The project community is a small rural setting sited in the Upper East region of Ghana sharing common borders with the Republic of Burkina Faso. Precisely, the village is located in the Navrongo East District, having Paga as its district capital. The district capital is well-known for its Crocodile Pond which attracts tourists from all walks of lives.
The indigenes, like any other ethnic group in the northern hemisphere of the country, principally engage in agricultural activities either on large or small scale to produce food and generate income to care for their immediate families and to support the national economy. As an alternative livelihood initiative, the people are carefully organized by NGOs working in the area to improve the lots of the people through capacity building training programmes. Under the initiative, women and the youth are trained to enhance their various vocational skills and more importantly, in the area of artifact and local smock production.
Nabamgo and its environs are peace loving people, very receptive and hospitable to visitors irrespective of their religious or ethnic diversity. The rural folks, the youth and adults are adequately been sensitized towards the project and they equally signaled their preparedness to work assiduously with the volunteers to attain the overall objective of the project.
ACCOMMODATION: The traditional authorities of the project community have, in anticipation, arranged decent residential accommodation for the volunteers’ use for the period of the project. Beds and mattresses will be provided but there is high possibility of volunteers sharing rooms with colleagues. The local market is inundated with variety of food items to meet the food needs of the camp. Ingredients for the meals will be adequately catered for but volunteers shall have the sole responsibility for the cooking. Every camper as expected will be asked to intermittently get involved actively in all activities outlined for the smooth running of the camp.
The leadership of the camp shall, in consultation with campers, organize programmes and activities that entertain campers such expeditions to tourist attraction sites within and outside the project area or indoor games or any form of socialization to kill boredom amongst campers. However, campers shall bear in (full) all associated costs
LANGUAGE: The official language of the camp shall be English; but the language factor will not be a barrier for participation.
PARTICIPATION FEE: A fee of 250 Euros will be demanded from each volunteer for his/her participation in the program to defray the feeding cost of volunteers and meet relevant expenses organizing and managing the camp. No part of the fee will go into the purchase of materials for the construction project. But volunteers who are touched by spirit of voluntarism could contribute in any form towards the project implementation. |
