VOLUNTARY WORKCAMPS ASSOCIATION OF GHANA (VOLU)
                                   1956 – 2006

50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS (GOLDEN JUBILEE)

In 1956 at Mfantsipim Secondary School in Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana, an idea was conceived and hatched to provide by students and other young people, platforms and opportunities that would enable them use their vacations, weekends and leisure hours to serve mankind. The brain behind this idea was the late Gorden Green who was an expatriate teacher at the School. That idea was ably supported by some teachers on staff and students in the school to come up with an association called the Voluntary Workcamps Association of Ghana (VOLU).

From its inception, the association has upheld one unchanging vision, which is, “To contribute to the development process of Ghana and Mankind through volunteering”. Among the objectives of the association are:

To promote and encourage the development of the spirit of    volunteerism among the youth and people of Ghana.
To tap and use the voluntary spirit of the youth towards the    achievement of national and international peace and understanding.
To provide a framework wherein people of all social and economic    background, race, colour, ethnicity and religion may come together to    use their leisure time to provide voluntary service in peace, love    harmony and mutual self-respect.
To be of and provide service to mankind.

Since its inception the association has assisted over 1,500 communities in Ghana to either build schools, markets, clinics, teachers’ quarters, plant trees, dig wells, construct roads, or engaged in HIV/AIDS education.

On this 50th Anniversary, we do invite all those who have volunteered with us before, Foreigners and Ghanaians to show solidarity to our course and join hands with us to celebrate this Golden Jubilee. We need your support either in kind or in cash to sustain the association in general and to have a successful anniversary. Your contribution may be channeled into the following bank accounts.
